I juste learned that the University of Illinois Library has an online archive with over 6 million newspaper articles, located at http://idnc.library.illinois.edu/cgi-bin/illinois. I did a quick search on “Casbon” and came up with this article.

The article is from The Republican-Atlas, of Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois, dated December 8, 1899. “The Fire Record” is a subheading of a regular feature of the paper entitled “WEEK’S HISTORY. News from All Parts of the Great World. HAPPENINGS BRIEFLY NARRATED. All the Latest Good News, Foreign Events Which Are of General Interest, Disasters, Crimes and Other Subjects Chronicled in Condensed Form for the Busy Reader.” They just don’t tell the news like they used to!
As many of my readers will know, Jesse Casbon (1843-1934) was the youngest son of Thomas Casbon (1803-1884), who emigrated from England in 1846. Jesse received brief mention in “From England to Indiana, Part 5.” Jesse was reportedly the oldest Civil War veteran for a number of years before he died. After the war, he settled in Center Township, Porter County, Indiana, where this barn was presumably located.

Jon, Jesse’s farm is in Center Twp on what is now Hwy 2 South; the house was fully restored by the Coolman family and still standing.
